Did you know you should replace your mattress every 7 to 10 years? In this episode of Homemade PA, I’m going to take you to BoxDrop Mattress Clearance Center in Carlisle, home to the $120 Queen mattress. We’ll chat with BoxDrop owner Paul Howell to learn about the comfy beds his company offers and how you can upgrade to a better night’s sleep without breaking the bank.
Affordable Mattresses At BoxDrop
If you’re looking to replace your mattress, it can be hard to figure out where to buy it without spending a ton. And who wants to order one online when you can’t even lay down and try it out? Thankfully, Carlisle offers a great store to solve this problem: BoxDrop Mattresses Clearance Center.
This mattress store managed to stay open throughout the pandemic with mattresses in stock. Paul Howell, the owner of BoxDrop, explains their very straightforward concept. They work with a distributor who buys up a lot of mattresses nationwide, including overstock. They also look for last-minute time at the factories that’s not being used. The distributor will bid on that time and get a lot of mattresses made that way—passing on the savings to BoxDrop.
The Big Secret Of The Mattress Industry
The big secret in the mattress business is that there are only about 300-400 manufacturers of mattresses in the country. A lot of the main manufacturers and main mattress lines make some of their mattresses. However, many subcontract out to other manufacturers—and that’s who our BoxDrop deals with.
This means that you can get the exact same mattress as several different brand names, all being made at the same factories. While it’s a little tricky inside the mattress business, Paul and his team simply work with them to buy the extra mattresses and wholesale them to the public.
How To Get Your New Bed
So how can you get a mattress at BoxDrop? As their mattresses come by the truckload, they set up times to meet people in the warehouse one on one. At your appointment, you can come in and try all of the different mattresses out.
To book your appointment, simply visit BoxDrop’s website or call to set up a time. The mattresses are all brand new and, if there are any problems, the manufacturer’s warranty will take care of them. Additionally, the price of a mattress at BoxDrop is 20-30 cents on the dollar when compared to other retailers.
Available Options
Thankfully, BoxDrop has been able to keep its supply of mattresses in stock throughout the entire pandemic—even when so many retailers are having supply chain issues. This is mostly because Paul’s contracts go out months and months in advance. Luckily, they had some supply despite the few supply issues that they did have. They’re also working with other suppliers to keep the inventory still coming in.
This inventory includes a variety of mattress styles. For example, some of the most popular mattresses are hybrid mattresses. These beds still have the traditional springs but also include the latest generation of either memory foam or gel foam inside the mattress as well—including some with cotton tops. When you lay on these mattresses, the springs underneath make it feel more like a traditional mattress with the comfort and support of modern technology and materials. This offers many sleepers the best of both worlds.
Another option is a memory foam mattress on an adjustable base. A lot of people don’t realize that when you’re laying in your bed at night, you’re still using all of your muscles. There are a lot of muscles used in your back, your neck, and your legs trying to keep you comfortable. An adjustable bed will simply allow you to adjust your body in a way that you’re not using your muscles. This makes you much more relaxed, gives you better blood flow, and helps you breathe a little bit better.
New Mattress Technology
Many of the mattresses offered at BoxDrop feature state-of-the-art technology. For example, one of the adjustable mattresses has a vibration feature. It’s meant for right when you get into bed and want something to help you relax. Lasting for just 10 minutes, it turns itself off and soothes you right to sleep.
There are also 14-inch memory foam mattresses that come in several different feels—though all of them have cooling technology. In old-school mattresses and memory foam toppers, heat builds up. The new technology allows heat to be dispersed out of the mattress, keeping it cool and helping you get a better night’s sleep.
Beds In Boxes
Another popular choice at BoxDrop is the bed in a box. These are either memory foam or hybrid mattresses that have been machine-compressed at the factory, sucking all the air out of the plastic and rolling it to fit in a box. They can then ship these boxes all over the world.
A bed in a box makes it easy to get a mattress in your house, especially since you can put it in the back of a standard SUV. Simply take the boxed mattress in the room, open up the box, and let the mattress expand. Within an hour, a big giant mattress is ready to be slept on.
Unlike buying a mattress online, the mattresses sold at BoxDrop don’t need to be aired out before use. There’s no formaldehyde, chemicals, or allergens on the mattresses. Some online mattresses for sale instruct you to leave your bed open for 72 hours—which is their way of getting all the chemicals out. Because BoxDrop’s mattresses don’t have chemicals, you can take them home and sleep on them on the same day.
One key advantage of buying your bed in person is trying a mattress before you buy it. As Paul tells us, they often have the same exact “boxed by Amazon” mattresses available online—only you can actually test them out. This way, you can make sure you like the bed before you spend your money.
